Using the Siwak or Toothbrush

Q: Which hand should I use to brush my teeth?

A: It is recommended to brush the teeth horizontally with a soft stick fashioned from the Arāk tree held in the left hand. It is disliked after the zawāl while fasting. It is emphasized before prayer, when waking, and due to bad breath. Starting on the right side of the mouth is recommended.
