Should I Pay My Parents' Fitrana

Q: For years my father has paid my zakat al-fitr. Should I be paying it instead?

A: You are obliged to pay your own zakat al-fitr as well as those you are obliged to take care of. If you cannot afford to pay on behalf of everyone, you are to pay in the following order;

1. Yourself

2. Your wife

3. Your bondservant

4. Your mother

5. Your father

6. Your child

7. The next in line for inheritence and so on
