Prayers upon the Prophet ﷺ on Friday

Q: Is there a special emphasis on sending ṣalawāt (blessings) upon the Prophet ﷺ on Fridays?

A: Yes, sending abundant ṣalawāt (salutations and blessings) upon the Prophet ﷺ particularly on the day and night of Friday (yawm al-jumuʿah and laylat al-jumuʿah) is encouraged. This practice is strongly recommended (sunnah muʾakkadah) and supported by multiple Prophetic reports including,

"Increase your blessings upon me on the day of Friday." (Aḥmad, Abū Dāwūd – with a sound isnād)

“Increase your blessings upon me on the night of Friday and on the day of Friday. For whoever sends one blessing upon me, Allah sends ten blessings upon him.” (Reported by al-Bayhaqī with a good chain)

Additionally, a general encouragement to frequently send ṣalawāt is found in the ḥadīth:

“The closest of people to me on the Day of Resurrection are those who send the most blessings upon me.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhī and graded ḥasan)

Therefore, not only is it recommended to send ṣalawāt regularly, but Friday and its preceding night are given special spiritual significance for this act of devotion.
