Six days of Shawwal Separate or Consecutive

Q: Can I fast the six days of Shawwāl separately, or do they need to be consecutive?

A: Whoever fasts these six days after completing Ramadan, it is as though they have fasted the entire year.

The correct position in the madhhab is that their virtue is attained whether they are fasted consecutively or separately.

It is, however, best to fast them consecutively and to observe them immediately after Eid, unless there is a reason to do otherwise, such as making up missed obligatory fasts from Ramadan or fulfilling a vow.
